This place rules!! What caught my eye first was the lovely menu. I loudly and immediately commented on how nice the menu was and the bartender, Sammy, told me he drew it all himself! Sammy continued to make us amazing drinks, each one topping the last. The service was absolutely amazing. The drinks were fantastic. The vibes were proverbially “on fleek!” Overall, Sammy was the best bartender I’ve ever had and he genuinely made me want to leave my house more and grew my faith in humanity as a whole.

I rarely hand out 5 star reviews, but this place—been coming here for years, they always treat me like family and don’t disappoint! Cocktails are on perfect—Thalia, Gabriella, Maria-Maria, James, and more are amazing mixologists! Chorizo Biscuits and Gravy with two eggs on top is sooo good! Músic is always good regardless of the genre playing! This is my Happy place for day drinking and breakfast!

Lux Central is just a pure Phoenix thing. I felt it is definitely one of the best all-around places in Phoenix for coffee, food, and a laid-back atmosphere. It feels local, relaxed, and totally in tune with the city’s vibe. The selection of pastries, drinks, and food is great, and everything has a unique taste that stands out from the usual coffee shop options. They even have a cocktail bar, so you can easily spend the whole day moving from coffee to a nice drink. The chocolate burnt cake was 5/5 It’s a great spot to work, chill, or hang out with friends. The soothing music, energetic vibes, and friendly staff make it comfortable whether you’re there for a quick coffee or work

Very cool vibes and a trendy spot for many. The coffee was good but on the pricier side. I would like to come back and try their deserts and meal items as their menu is extensive. Overall a much better place than your normal mainstream coffee shop that is sort of a hidden gem.

This is hands down one of the most beautiful establishments I’ve ever stepped into in Phoenix. The food was absolutely incredible!!! Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and full of flavor. The sandwiches, desserts, fresh bread, and lemonade were all a 10/10. The ladies working in the back were so kind and welcoming, and the owner, Isam, is truly one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. He came out to personally greet customers and even offered everyone complimentary baklava and authentic Arabic coffee. That level of generosity and hospitality is so rare these days. You can truly feel the love and care that goes into both the food and the service. Thank you to everyone running this wonderful small business for making my husband and me feel so welcome. We left with full stomachs and even fuller hearts. If you’re looking for authentic, delicious food served with genuine kindness, do yourself a favor and visit this place. We’ll absolutely be back!!!

Took my daughter here who is celiac for her birthday brunch. We were pleasantly surprised that the entire menu and kitchen are gluten free. this was like a Celiacs dream restaurant. The food was amazing, the restaurant was packed and the menu items were very diverse. Our waitress was very attentive and the overall ambiance was kind of like a diner vibe. The chicken tenders were moist and the breading was so flavorful. They are known for their fried chicken dishes so I had to try it. And it did not disappoint. This restaurant idea of being all gluten free with such an amazing variety of dishes needs to be copied and multiplied as the food was off the charts and in todays day and age of people needing gluten free options beside salad and corn chips, this was a must go to. Highly recommend!

The Honest Truth

This place is the BOMB! Reasonably priced and huge portions (check out the chicken sandwich). On top of that, this place is dedicated Gluten Free, which is huge to my Celiac wife, but I’m not and you would never know with the taste of the food. This place is also gluten free bakery with tons of baked goods, including whole cakes. They do dairy and vegan options as well, so if you are ingredient limited or into that diet, you can indulge here! I highly encourage you to check it out for breakfast or lunch (not open for dinner, but the restaurant is shared with an excellent Mexican restaurant that comes in and serves dinner catering to all the same dietary restrictions (see my review of True Taco).

So good! Everything is gluten free and most options can be dairy free also. We started with donut holes and popcorn chicken. Then we enjoyed Philly, fish, and reuben sandwiches. The menu is large and everything looked amazing. It was hard to order because we couldn’t decide. We finished with a french toast cupcake to share. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely loved visiting Balkan Bakery! The bakery offers a fantastic selection of fresh pastries, breads, desserts, and traditional Balkan treats that are full of authentic flavor. Everything tasted homemade, fresh, and prepared with care. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the aroma of freshly baked goods made the experience even better. The staff was friendly, patient, and happy to explain different items on the menu, which made choosing much easier. I especially enjoyed the quality and freshness of the pastries — perfectly baked, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The portions were generous, and the prices felt very reasonable for the quality offered. It’s a great spot whether you’re stopping in for coffee and a pastry, picking up fresh bread, or trying something new from Balkan cuisine. You can really tell they put passion into their baking and customer service. Overall, Balkan Bakery is a hidden gem with delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere. We had a DELICIOUS EXPERIENCE. I know everyone recommends the burek–I definitely agree. I especially recommend the spinach burek–we tried both the spinach and cheese and agreed both were tasty but that the spinach was transcendent. I also HIGHLY recommend the devrek, it’s just magical with the salt on the outside and the chewiness! So good.

3/30/24: a friend had given us some bread from Balkan and we decided to check it out for ourselves this particular Saturday morning. What a great place. It’s an unassuming storefront, but the second you walk in it’s heavenly. There is plenty of parking and there is a myriad of items to curb your cravings. Aside from the baked goods, they have a small store with miscellaneous items. We didn’t look too closely at them as our eyes gravitated to their breads, desserts, and other items in the display case. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and she explained to us about how the Figaro treat was named after the opera; that way back when, because operas were so long, during intermission, small treats (packed with sugar) were sold to help the audience stay awake for the next half of the show. We ended up purchasing one of each dessert, a savory item, and a small drink (because the bottle was cool). I cannot remember what the hot savory item was called but hey, pastry and cheese, what more do you need? 🙂 For all of that, it only came to $29. Balkan Bakery is 22 miles from our house so it won’t be a weekly visit for us, but we will definitely return — we must try more of their baked breads.

I stopped by after seeing all the controversy on Instagram, and I have to say I agree with what Aurora was pointing out. The pastries here are okay, but nothing about them feels exceptional for the price. I’ve been to Paris Baguette just down the road, and I would recommend it 100% over JL Patisserie in terms of both quality and value. We ended up paying $32 for 2 coffees and 2 ham & cheese croissants, which felt steep considering the croissants were pretty standard. My friend paid $65 for 5 pastries and a coffee, and even she left feeling underwhelmed. At those prices, you expect something memorable—better flavor, better texture, or at least something that stands out from other bakeries. The shop itself is cute and the presentation is nice, but overall the products don’t match the premium they’re charging. With so many great options nearby, especially Paris Baguette, JL Patisserie just didn’t live up to the hype for us.

JL Patisserie 4700 N Central Ave ste. 121, Phoenix, AZ 85012 For sale: My Tea 4750 N Central Ave. During my recent visit to JL Patisserie, located at 4700 N Central Ave, Suite 121 in Phoenix, AZ, I was there primarily to photograph my latest listing, which includes both the business and building of My Tea at 4750 N Central Ave. Next door JL Patisserie is a delightful bakery known for its artisanal pastries and inviting atmosphere. On this occasion, I was thrilled to find a selection of four distinct types of croissants, each crafted with care and precision. I couldn’t resist adding a pistachio croissant to my order, and it was an absolute revelation. With just one bite of the pistachio croissant, I felt as if I had been transported to a culinary paradise. The rich, nutty flavor combined with the flaky, buttery layers created a heavenly experience. I had initially planned to share these delectable treats with my girlfriends, but the temptation was too great; I found myself wanting to indulge in every last bite. JL Patisserie not only excels in flavor but also in presentation, making it a perfect spot for both pastry lovers and those looking to enjoy a cozy atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick treat or planning a gathering, this bakery is sure to impress.

Had to try the infamous cruffin, and boy it’s worth the hype!! It is super sweet and filled with cream/custard. Also tried the seasonal Hawaiian Latte half sweetened which tasted tropical! This locations parking is way better than the one on 24th street. I actually left that one and came to this one bc I looped 3 times for parking and couldn’t park. This location parking is way better!

Arrived to place an order Friday morning. Walked right in and there was a line of about six people ahead of me. The line moved pretty quickly and I was ordering in about five minutes. The person taking my order was kind and to the point. I didn’t see a restroom inside the cafe itself. There were plenty of tables and chairs to sit at both inside and outside of the shop. As the doors are constantly being opened, it was very hot inside of the store. I picked up a ham & cheese croissant, a pistachio croissant, and a maple latte. They had my parties out pretty quickly but the drink took a while and the barista didn’t have a very good attitude. The flavor of the croissants was buttery and delicious. However, the ham inside the ham & cheese was all on one side! There is a small parking lot located in front.

One of the best Mexican bakeries I’ve ever tried. Very inexpensive and delicious. We got a wide variety of pastries in a huge bag for cheap. The staff are very nice but there was a language barrier, so we ordered mostly through pointing. Everything we tried was really good. You could taste the quality. The items we didn’t get to right away held up and reheated well.

I arrived before the listed opening today (Christmas Eve) and they were already open. I wanted to make sure I got everything I needed before the long lines as someone else stated in a reddit review. Went to the other branch on my last trip to Phoenix and couldn’t leave this time without getting some more Mexican baked stuff. Much smaller outlet then the original store but definitely the same good quality product! No lines at all, so the person working there was able to describe everything we wanted to know about. Peach Empanada was amazing! Filling was not too sweet, and kinda felt too little at one point, but the crust totally made up for it! Flaky and suddenly sweet and went really well with the filling. I would totally be able to have five at a time! Bigotes (like to concha but little more dense and had the pink koncha topping swirled inside, and powdered sugar on top) was SO GOOD! It looks like a croissant but it was actually a bread. Very distinct flavor and so so good and addictive! Super soft Conchas! So fresh and light and airy as well. Very easy to devour in under a minute, haha. Flan was soft and smooth and sweet as last time. No sugary sweet and just the right amount of caramel flavor and overall a beautiful one. Husband also got the square pastry with coconut on top and a dollop of vanilla pudding in the middle. He really loved it but I wasn’t too much of a fan because of the coconut and pastry going on.

I’m an out-of-state visitor and came across Mama Toledo’s pie shop when searching for a place day of for a bday cherry pie. I called morning of, employee over the phone was so friendly and helpful and allowed me to reserve one of the large ones that just came out of the oven! When I got there, same employee was so lovely answering all my questions about additional pies (minis, a variety of selection) there. I purchased a small key lime as suggested and a brown sugar peach. As for taste….Fantastic!! Bit of a pie connoisseur here myself from my area so…I know a good pie. Quality ingredients, fresh, balanced flavors and ratios, great crust, just bravo! The “standard” style crust on the cherry pie was salted to perfection, and cooked perfectly. One of the best crusts I’ve had in a long time. The key lime was unique, tart and silky smooth with a crunchy thick bottom, so good! I’m really excited to try the brown sugar peach tomorrow. Wish I didn’t live so far away to try more! Don’t miss out you have to try this place!

We have had Mama Toledo’s pie, both from the shop and from their roving food truck. If you get on their mailing list, they will tell you where the pie truck is going to be. The truck only sells one-person pies. The selection is limited, but all are good. Our favorites are the banana, peanut butter, and peach. I got an email saying that they now serve breakfast burritos, so I dropped by after a recent trip to Mayo. One of the walls had disappeared and they now have expanded and have a little cafe! They have a limited menu of breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, quiche, waffles, burritos, biscuits, and savory pies. They also have coffee drinks and a few other specialty drinks. I ordered a green chili burrito with green salsa to go, and let me just say that I’ll be back again… Really good, filling burrito, and while I would enjoy a lot hotter salsa, it was still good. I’ll have to take my wife back and we can try savory pies or waffles and coffee.

Their website generated high expectations as the food looks soooo good, but we were not impressed when we visited. First – the menu is seasonal, so not all dishes pictured on the website may be available during your visit. Second – the service was lackluster at best, and the food was just average with nothing memorable temting a return. Third – they don’t serve any coffee (of any kind), and their breads are good, but not great and can be purchased at a local grocery store chain. This coupled with their schedule (only open 4.5 hours per day on weekdays only) makes is hard to justify future visits. The prices are very fair, but we won’t return.

Neighborhood bakery shop with a very fast service. I got my order within 1 minute. I got the Italian on Semolina Roll and Semolina bread. The sandwich was delicious especially there were a touch of chili flake and pickle chili and salami was spectacular. The bread was chewy (nice way) with sesame on top. On the back of the bread’s bag, there is a recommendation how to keep the bread and how to eat them in the different stage of the freshness. Very caring. Will revisit.

What a shame, been coming here for over twenty years. Upper management changed store around like a dummy put chocolate donuts in/near window Prices are now close to the regular grocery store sale prices. They don’t mark the bread to 1.50 anymore it all goes to donations So for the elder people, people that can’t make it to donation centers it’s a slap in the face. Was the 300.00/400.00 a day in sales loss per day worth the tax write off? I doubt it. Plus losing the the community Time to checkout holsum

I remember this store being so warm and welcoming and friendly. It’s not the case no more so I just left and the cashier and some other guy were outstanding outside and the guy that left was like it’s cash only and I went in the store and kitchen shopping I don’t know who we were speaking to and as I was looking around to see what I wanted to get the cashier goes you know it’s cash only we don’t take cards right now or that or EBT cards and I’m like are you talking to me and he goes yes I just wanted to let you know I was like OK well I don’t have EBT and I only have cash so I guess it works right and he was like you don’t have Ebt ! I will never shop here again sad part about it is I drove from 75th and Thomas all the way over here

Antigua Bakery in Phoenix serves as a destination for authentic Hispanic pastries and traditional desserts. While the establishment has long-standing roots in the community, current experiences regarding custom cake accuracy and order fulfillment vary significantly.

The bakery faces challenges with consistent service quality and attention to specific design details. Improvements in communication and production reliability are necessary to ensure that every specialty order meets the expected standards.

I bought cakes from this place through a friend’s recommendation. We always come here for our child’s birthday, but last time my husband said the cake he ordered was terrible! So we paid for a second one!

This is the only place we buy our cakes for the last 20+ years. They have always been our favorite, and we even tell our friends all the time about it. But recently, the quality has fallen, specifically by the front of house. Any directions we give are constantly ignored or forgotten, this year we wasted 200$ on cakes throughout the year with mistakes. Today we purchased a 57$ flat sheet cake and we were told it would be 52$ and also tres leches with caramelo. We cut it today and it was not tres leches. I think this is the fault of the front of house, they are never paying attention to directions and we have to repeat ourselves multiple times and they still get it wrong. This happened to a customer right next to us also who was receiving a blank cake, after they took it to the back, she needed to remind them she asked for certain colors and a name.

This is the place for authentic Hispanic pastries. The reason I go there though is for the tres Leche cake, they are amazing and second to none!

I have been a loyal customer of your establishment for as long as I can remember. My family frequents your business, and I’ve recommended you to numerous friends and neighbors over the years. Unfortunately, I am writing to express my deep disappointment with a recent experience that has caused me to reconsider my support. This is the second time I’ve received an incorrect cake order. The first incident involved a cake for my partner’s daughter; the decoration did not match what was requested, though the issue was acknowledged and corrected. However, today’s experience was particularly frustrating and disheartening. I placed my cake order a week in advance, clearly communicated the design specifications, provided reference photos, and reviewed and signed the order form to confirm everything was correct. When I arrived at 2:00 PM to pick up the cake—despite being told earlier that it was ready by 12:00 PM—I discovered it had not been made according to the agreed design. I immediately brought this to the team’s attention, and they assured me the issue would be fixed. However, after taking the cake back, the corrections made were even worse. I showed the staff the reference image again and even offered my phone to assist them. I was then informed the original baker was not present and that was the reason for the error, but I find this an unacceptable excuse for such a significant oversight. In addition, at no point during the ordering process was I informed that silver icing or decoration was unavailable. This lack of transparency is unprofessional, especially for a custom order costing over $122.94 I did not leave your store until 3:30 PM—well over an hour after arriving. When I arrived at the event and finally opened the cake, I was even more disappointed to find that the frosting color and decorations were incorrect, and the cake flavor and internal details did not match what I had ordered. This was not only frustrating but also embarrassing, as the cake was meant for a special surprise celebration. Given the circumstances and the poor quality of service and product, I am formally requesting a refund. I hope this issue will be taken seriously, as my experience does not reflect the high standards I’ve come to expect from your business.

Frequently asked questions about bakeries in Phoenix

    What is a bakery?

A bakery is a commercial establishment that produces and sells flour-based food products, such as bread, cakes, pastries, and cookies. These businesses can range from small artisanal shops to large-scale industrial producers. In Phoenix, you will find various styles ranging from traditional European-style boulangeries to modern specialty dessert shops.

Do bakeries bake everything fresh every day?

Most bakeries prioritize baking fresh products daily to ensure the highest quality and flavor for their customers. While many items like bread and morning pastries are baked every morning, some specialty items or long-shelf-life products may be produced in larger batches. It is common for local bakeries to have specific "bake times" throughout the day to keep inventory fresh.
