I’ve been a patient of Dr. Deer’s since 2022. I have not had anything other than the best experience. I could give multiple examples of Dr. Deer going above and beyond to provide care but it would require several paragraphs. And equally important is the professionalism of the staff. They are a well trained and responsive team of people. Couldn’t ask for more. Needless to say under Dr. Deer’s careful watch I am in the best health I have been in for years.

My mom just called and had an awful experience with the front office staff! Understanding that appointments are not available until mid July, their staff should not be so dismissive. My mom is 70 and she was scared about not having an endocrinologist in AZ. She just moved here and luckily she has been having better experiences. But this really upset me because I was really hopeful after reading the reviews. But the Hispanic girl handling the front office needs to be reminded that no patients = no job! You don’t treat people like that!!! Find another job if you have burnout!

This is a very short review… I didn’t even get a chance to see the doctor at this medical facility… But I did speak with Alexandra and she was so awesome. I thought I would leave a message saying she has an asset to the organization and make sure that she has kept around for a long time…

My experiences with this practice and Dr. Sawalha have been amazing so far. Dr. Sawalha is very thorough and she has been a great advocate in helping me get prescriptions covered by my insurance that were initially denied. She is caring and proactive and really makes me feel valued as a patient. The process to become a new patient was very quick and easy for me. Just had to get a referral from my PCP and everything else was handled from there. I’m so glad I found this endo!

Cannot recommend Dr. Deer and this office enough. Dr. Deer listens carefully and explains options clearly, and takes the time to answer questions fully. Never once has he made me feel judged for my numbers (an issue I unfortunately had with other endos), but instead takes a more collaborative approach. Everyone in this office is awesome, too. Having the labwork be able to be done at the office was VERY convenient and quick, and the phlebotomists they have are amazing (especially Daisy!).

My endo left her old practice, and ever since, I’ve been desperately struggling to find quality care. I searched online, read reviews, and even asked the stand-in doctor for a referral to this place, hoping to find a new endo. I wish I could write an honest review of their service, but I can’t, because I was told that because I canceled my first appointment, the doctor refuses to see me as a patient. I’ve never heard of anything so unfair in my life! A side note—I called several days in advance to cancel, and their office confirmed they received my voicemail with a call back and a voicemail. Honestly, I’m just relieved I dodged a bullet. I can’t imagine needing serious care and being brushed off and discarded by their staff.

I have been seeing Dr. Deer for two years now and have generally no complaints with his care or staff. However, this morning at 7am I received a call back from one of the ladies in his office (Cindy)) and I must say I did not think the interaction was pleasant at all. She spoke to me in a rather condescening manner which I did not appreciate at all. Yes, I realize the office closes at 4pm. That’s why I had left a voicemail for someone to please call me back the next day. I was not complaining. Yes, I realize I had moved my last appointment from November to January. If I usually feel fine my condition is not supposed to require constant monitoring so I thought I would be fine going longer between appointments which was the case until just now. No, I do not have to wait for the Doctor to see me in January to get my medications adjusted. That can also be done in between visits. It would otherwise be impossible to keep functioning sometimes. My disease is not dictated by your scheduling calendar. Sorry lady but you need to practice a little bit more compassion when speaking to patients and not automatically assume we are less intelligent than you!

I have been fighting for months to get my doctor or her nurse aid to do pre-authorization for my Omni pods after I had already been set up with my whole Omnipod starter kit. There’s been more little situations where they just laughed off and say oh I forgot I haven’t gotten to it and it’s becoming a serious thing . I am now on my last Omnipod and still no answer on why they can’t get it done. I think this is ridiculous. This causes people to get comfortable and more used to a way of living and then they just have to fall back to what they had. If they still do , because they can’t get things done properly instead of just admitting to the patient that it’s not possible. There should really be more work ethic and professionalism when it comes to making sure your patience get what they are asking for and need.

I enjoy my semiannual visits with Iva Tirres at IMS-Endo because she is always prepared before the visit so I don’t have to explain everything, and she’s extremely efficient with the exam. More importantly she’s very approachable and friendly so I feel like we’re having a nice chat and I’m comfortable asking questions if I need to. I very highly recommend her.

My visits are always pleasant here. The doctors, nurse practitioners and their support staff are excellent, kind and they make me feel like I am being heard. Since I had thyroid cancer and thyroidectomy, it has been difficult to find medical attention of this caliber. I have been a patient here and have experienced consistent difficulty receiving basic, reasonable medical care. Most recently, I made a simple request on June 23rd to add a repeat lab test to an existing standing order — a test my PCP previously ordered without hesitation. What followed was over two weeks of non-responses, repeated dismissals that ignored my written explanations, a random appointment scheduled instead of a reply, and as of today, still no resolution. The PA (Laura Truack) managing my care repeatedly responded with the same five-word answer despite my having already addressed her point in the prior message — making clear she was not reading what I wrote. When I asked directly for the supervising MD, that message went unanswered for six days and counting. This is not a complaint about a difficult diagnosis or a complex medical decision. This is a single lab code that takes 20 seconds to add to an existing order. The inability or unwillingness to accomplish that, while leaving a patient’s documented health concerns unaddressed for weeks, reflects a serious systemic failure in patient care. I have notified the practice that I am willing to update this review upon resolution. To date, no clinically substantive response has been provided to a request made June 23rd, 2026.

Dr. Boron is one of the best endocrinologists I have ever had. I have been through an assortment of specialists each of them had different issues, either the attentiveness of the physician, the responsiveness of the practice, or hours and location for visits. With Doctor Boron and Archangel Endocrinology & Diabetes in Phoenix; I have had no issues. Beyond not having any issues, I have had exceptional care and treatment from both the practice and Doctor Boron. I like to take the time to give credit for good work, especially when it is excellent work. Doctor Boron has a pleasant uplifting manner, and speaks plainly taking the time to educate me on approaches to my treatment. Her staff is polite jovial professional and put me at ease but still made me feel the they were taking my visit seriously. I highly recommend Anna Boron, MD and her practice!

My doctor sent a referral back on May 19, 2026. I continued to contact the office to schedule at the 4th call I finally got a human who refused to schedule without a referral. I said the referral was sent. They couldn’t find it, so my doctor sent it again on June 4th, called again left a voicemail, no return call, called again and spoke to a gal who this time put me in the system, however could not find my referral and “the Buckets” are so full they were months behind, so just resend the referral, and was promised a call back. Called again today, can’t get anyone so left another VM, and decided to contact another Endocrinology office, got right in for an Appt July 7th. They clearly do not need New Patient’s at this office. Very disappointed.

Let me start by stating the reviews initially worried me, but they couldn’t be less accurate or helpful. I work in the healthcare industry so I’m familiar with how treatment, good treatment, should be administered. My first impressions were with front desk staff. They were thorough, funny, welcoming, and efficient. Meaning, they didn’t spend any unnecessary time going over anything other than what they were supposed to. Next was the medical assistant. Again, warm, thorough and intelligent. I wish I would have gotten her name because she deserves recognition. Lastly, my doctor. The fates aligned so that I could be seen by this doctor as he’s not been with the practice long. I was diagnosed in September and apparently he started at this time. Dr. Chan Ho is one of the most knowledgeable, clever, warm hearted physicians you will encounter. Moreover, he ordered additional and necessary tests to rule out any possible issues causing my symptoms. I am unbelievably grateful to have found this practice and to have found Dr. Ho. I would recommend him many times over.

I am incredibly grateful for the care, professionalism, and guidance I received through Midtown Endocrine Associates. This journey began with my primary care physician, Elle Ross, DO, PhD, who took my concerns seriously and made a thoughtful referral. That decision ultimately led me to Joan Bailey, MD, FACP, FEAA, and I cannot express enough appreciation for her expertise and calm, attentive approach. Over time, with careful evaluation, monitoring, and encouragement, I gained clarity, confidence, and a much deeper understanding of my health. What mattered most to me was not just treatment, but being heard, respected, and supported as a whole person. That is exactly what I experienced. This year, after a long process of gathering data, making lifestyle changes, and working closely with my doctors, I reached a place of real reassurance and peace. Going into Christmas feeling healthy, informed, and hopeful is something I don’t take lightly. It feels like a gift that goes far beyond medicine. I truly feel a sense of lifelong gratitude—not just for the clinical care, but for the joy, relief, and renewed confidence in life that came from it. Thank you for giving me something far more valuable than money can buy. I would wholeheartedly recommend Midtown Endocrine Associates to anyone seeking thoughtful, high-quality endocrine care.

In summary: quick responses, flexible availability, appointments within reasonable time, great providers. JUST DO IT, THEY ARE AMAZING This place is BEYOND AMAZING. At first, I was hesitant since I saw it had poor ratings but I also noticed most of those ratings were from YEARS ago. I can confidently say they are no where near that anymore. I have been struggling to find an endocrinologist for years since no one would call back or they would provide poor services, not the case for this office. My office sent the paperwork/referral around thanksgiving time and they called me within less than a week to schedule my appointment. My initial appointment was scheduled about 2 weeks out from that phone call. I was shocked at how quick they were, especially during the holidays! When I went to my appointment I was taken in right at my appointment time. Dr. Chan Ho Shin is so wonderful. He listened to all of my concerns, asked questions, explained things, and took things seriously. In my first appointment he acknowledged that there was a problem and that we would start tackling it now, rather than pulling the whole “oh we need to do more testing before doing anything, oh you need to track this or that”. Nope, he immediately hopped on it and has kept a close eye on me and my concerns. I also like that they take you in within a reasonable time when you do walk ins for bloodwork. 10/10 would recommend!

I take my brother to Dr Panadeekarn Panjawatanan and have sit in with him at his appointments. I like how she takes her time to listen and is very thorough. I feel like she cares about her patients. I really appreciate the extra effort. Also the effort of the assistants and front desk who help me with questions and appointments. Thank you.

Update review for Justin F I am updating my review after now spending 9 months attempting to resolve ongoing issues with my care and medication authorization process through Banner University Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute. For a period of time, I was receiving assistance from an appeals process coordinator who was helping navigate the numerous obstacles and delays. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, she will now be out of the office until August. I was recently informed that there is currently no dedicated point of contact for my case and that it is instead being handled by various nurses within the office. Unfortunately, this fragmented approach has repeatedly proven ineffective. Each case involves unique circumstances, and when multiple individuals are involved without clear ownership, critical steps are overlooked, communication breaks down, and necessary follow-through does not occur. Many of the issues I have experienced over the past nine months stem directly from this lack of accountability. I have repeatedly been advised to contact Ricky, the office manager, regarding my concerns. However, despite leaving multiple messages through the call center requesting a return call, I have received no response. Banner Health Patient Advocacy has also advised that these concerns should be brought to Ricky’s attention, but what is a patient supposed to do when the office manager does not respond to repeated requests for communication? I was additionally directed to contact Kelly, his direct support, but have likewise been unable to obtain assistance. At this point, I feel that my concerns are being treated as an inconvenience rather than legitimate patient care issues requiring attention. The lack of responsiveness, accountability, and urgency surrounding matters that directly impact a patient’s health is deeply concerning. What has been most disappointing throughout this process is the apparent lack of empathy and seriousness shown toward ongoing patient needs. When patients are left without a dedicated point of contact, unanswered calls become more than an administrative issue—they become barriers to accessing medically necessary care. Delays, missed follow-up, and a lack of communication can have real consequences for a patient’s health and well-being, particularly when dealing with complex medical conditions and insurance appeals that require active coordination and advocacy. Nine months is an unacceptable amount of time to spend attempting to navigate issues that should have been addressed through clear communication, coordinated care, and effective leadership. Until meaningful action is taken, I continue to believe this office is poorly managed and fails to provide the level of patient advocacy and support that individuals with complex medical needs deserve. I will continue documenting my experience and seeking assistance until someone within the office or Banner Health leadership is willing to address these concerns and ensure that patients receive the care, communication, and accountability they deserve.

Banner – University Medicine Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute in Phoenix has provided one of the most frustrating and neglectful healthcare experiences I have ever dealt with. I have a lifelong medical condition and understand that healthcare systems can be busy, but this office operates at a level of dysfunction that directly impacts patient care. For weeks, I have repeatedly left messages and been told someone would contact me within 48 hours. No one ever does. On the rare occasion you actually reach someone in the office, they verify your callback number and assure you the issue will be addressed, only for calls to mysteriously “drop” after sitting on hold for extended periods of time and again, no callback ever comes. What makes this even worse is that prescribed medications requiring prior authorization have been left sitting for months because the office repeatedly failed to submit the necessary paperwork. Patients should not have to chase down an endocrinology office for months just to receive medication already prescribed by their doctor. Delays like that are not minor inconveniences when managing chronic illness they directly affect quality of life and health. On top of the communication failures, I discovered the office was billing unnecessary fees for services that were never properly explained. I ultimately had to work directly with my insurance company to bypass and dispute charges that should never have been pushed onto patients in the first place. Trying to manage a lifelong illness is already exhausting. Patients should not have to spend hours of their limited personal time fighting just to communicate with their doctor’s office, obtain prescribed medication, or understand questionable billing practices. The level of care and accountability here has been deeply disappointing and, frankly, feels negligent. I would strongly caution anyone considering this office to be prepared for severe communication breakdowns, administrative incompetence, and an overall lack of urgency regarding patient care.

I have been a patient for years and received nothing but great care from Dr. Bailey and Deborah. Reception is also top notch! Lately after dealing with other practices it has made me appreciate this team even more and makes the long drive worth it!

I have been a patient at this office for 9 years. Never once has anybody been anything but kind and professional. Laura is very friendly and always calls me back and helps me solve my problems. Front office as well as medical assistants are always very compassionate and professional. Dr. Bailey takes her time and listens. She is very caring. I go to other offices to see doctors and you often can’t even get a live person to speak with. I love that this office is small and personal.

I decided to write a post only because there are so many saying they don’t get called back. I get calls all the time and if they don’t reach me they try again. I’ve been with Dr. Bailey for years and I’ve had all kinds of medical issues that were terrible and sent my blood sugar reeling. I also have Hoshimotos (thyroid). I’m not an easy patient. Finally this year, I actually listened to what she said about my decline and I started a plan to get my health back. Medication is not a cure all. I’ve lost 25+ pounds and I feel so much better. I have a long journey to go but Dr. Bailey and the staff are always supportive.

At the office, I couldn’t have been treated better. Front office people were very friendly. Dr Bailey didn’t rush & was very thorough. She ordered tons of labs. Her nurse left 1 message to call back about my labs. I have now called 6 or 7 times in just over a week & never get a call back. Being able to get through to the front desk is rare. The phone just rings and rings. I had read previous reviews before I made my appointment. While there I kept thinking how wrong they were. Now, not so much. I’m about to call my primary for a new referral, because this is ridiculous.

I have seen Dr. Bailey for years, and she is a terrific Physician. Her staff on the other hand are horrible. They are not courteous, respectful of my time, or pleasant to work with at all. I have had Pharmacies give up on renewing my prescriptions due to the lack of attention on their part. I have also had many of my appointments cancelled, and forced to reschedule on a specific date and time which did not work for me at all. Either it was this time, or 4 months out I was told. I cannot exclaim how bad the patient service really is. I work for an excellent health system, and these folks would be asked to go elsewhere.

1)Called to make an appointment due to another specialist expressing concern with some lab results. Called- wouldn’t even CONSIDER making an appointment until they look at your records…..is that even legal or good customer service? 2) Told me they would call once they received my records but after 10 days no call…and records were sent 10 days ago. 3) 7 minutes on hold just to repeat myself with why I was calling. Might I add, this happened the first time. 4) Require a credit card payment for $5 just to make an appointment. I understand if it was a procedure …but $5? On top of that I asked if I could call back because I was driving to pick up my daughter and couldn’t grab my card. The RUDE lady replied ” you’ll have to call back and make the appointment when you have that number” Honestly, any medical professional who is concerned with patients’ health would never make it this difficult on anyone. Besides it being hard to get in- the poor ladies up front really struggle hard on how to be nice. This is the third time I have spoken to someone and it’s unbelievable this business model is still standing

I have been a patient of Dr Bailey for probably close to 15 years. She has been there for me through a lot of tough times including a high risk pregnancy with twins. I struggle with depression & my weight tends to fluctuate & she never ever makes me feel uncomfortable, if anything she lifts me up when I have been in very low points over the years. I recently went to Turks & Caicos & my insulin pump malfunctioned, Dr Bailey dropped everything & called me before giving an important lecture. Over these years i haven’t been the best with being a consistent patient which i promise to do better but Dr Bailey has ALWAYS gone above and beyond for me. God bless her practice -Amanda Pedrego

I can’t begin to tell you how much Dr Gonsalves means to our family. He has cared for my daughter since diagnosis 6 years ago and no matter what our concern he goes above and beyond. We don’t know we will do in a few years when my daughter has to switch to an adult Endo! I wouldn’t go to anyone else if you want to know your kids will be cared for like his own.

This place has gone downhill!!! My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Pamela Smith since 2019 and it was a lot better back then than it is now. There’s no communication and nobody knows anything that’s going on. The way that they speak to you is insane. They have no compassion. I’m switching doctors within the practice hoping it will be better but who knows.

Tracy, the diabetes educator, is the absolute best. She knows how to connect with her patients on such an incredible level. You can tell she loves what she does and I wish there were more people like her in this field.

One of the worst facilities to have to contact regarding refills. No matter how many times the pharmacy sends over the requests. The front office literally sits on it forever and then they never return phone calls. The prescriptions are never written correctly in order to make sure your child has enough meds to get through the month. It has been a headache every since my daughter was assigned here. We can’t wait to relocate and find a more responsive provider with better adequate office staff.

Impossible to get help with prescriptions or medications. Impossible to get anyone on the phone. Impossible to now get a response from the diabetes log email. What is going on in this office???? How is it possible to be this BAD. 2 years now and counting.

Dr. Barger is fantastic, I sure hope one day she opens her own clinic and takes our insurance because we’ll be there in about half a second. My daughter has been a patient with Phoenix Children’s for the past 3 years and they are a NIGHTMARE. Don’t bother calling the prescription line, they won’t fill it or respond. Need a pre-authorization? Prepare for the biggest nightmare of your life as you leave multiple messages for multiple layers of people to have no responses. Save your requests for Dr Barger who will promptly solve your problem during your in office visit. Hopefully your kids life doesn’t depend on Phoenix Children’s response time, because if it does then you might as well just go to the ER.

Not only is my child’s health not important to any Dr or staff here, but Dr Newborn said she would keep an eye on my sons thyroid but has not once tested his thyroid. I’ve tried calling several times to get an answer as to why and then been told the dr would call. I have not gotten a call. We’ve been going here for almost 3 years been told to be seen every 3 months to monitor A1C and thyroid and we can’t even get an appointment for 7 months out! If you have any kid of health concerns for your child I highly recommend finding another place.

Frequently asked questions about endocrinologists in Phoenix

What is an endocrinologist and what does endocrinology mean?

An endocrinologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions related to hormones and the endocrine system. This field of medicine focuses on glands that produce hormones, such as the thyroid, pancreas, and adrenal glands. They manage a wide range of disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disease, and metabolic issues.

How do I choose an endocrinologist?

Choosing an endocrinologist involves verifying their medical credentials, board certifications, and experience with your specific health condition. You should consider whether they are accepting new patients, their proximity to your location in Phoenix, and if they are within your insurance network. Many patients also look for providers who offer a collaborative approach to long-term hormone management.

How much does an endocrinologist visit cost?

The cost of an endocrinologist visit varies depending on your insurance coverage, the complexity of the consultation, and any diagnostic tests performed during the appointment. Out-of-pocket expenses can differ significantly between initial consultations and follow-up visits. It is recommended to contact the office directly to confirm their accepted insurance plans and estimated costs for your specific needs.

How often should I see my endocrinologist?

The frequency of visits depends entirely on your specific diagnosis and how well your condition is being managed. For example, patients with stable chronic conditions may only need check-ups once or twice a year, while those with new diagnoses or fluctuating hormone levels may require more frequent monitoring. Your doctor will provide a personalized schedule based on your lab results and treatment progress.
