Pip Coffee & Clay in Phoenix is such a fun concept and a refreshing change from the typical coffee shop. We stopped in for coffee and stayed to paint pottery, which made the visit feel like an experience instead of just a quick stop. The drinks were well made, the café was clean, and the creative atmosphere made it easy to relax. There were plenty of pottery options for all skill levels, and the staff was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Whether you’re looking for a unique date idea, somewhere to catch up with friends, or just want great coffee in a creative space, this spot is absolutely worth visiting. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Phoenix.

I booked a pottery class for two and as a first timer, the experience exceeded my expectations. Steve was the best instructor I had never done this before and I felt the instructions were clear and I felt comfortable with the process and Steve was kind enough to help everyone when needed in a very balanced way. The staff was also kind I got there a little late and they didn’t make us feel bad and made sure we had a chance to order coffee and they were super helpful. Steve even helped put together a proposal and it was just the best experience.

I had an amazing time at PIP today. First off I was early so I ordered a dirty chai and it was honestly one of the best I ever had. They have tons of cute art available in the coffeeshop and tasty looking snack options. I took the “plant friends class” with Henry and he was so helpful and friendly. What a gem! We were able to freestyle and no matter the skill level everyone seemed to have a great time. I cant wait to take my next class at this location. Perfect for first dates and friends.

It was a good class but I got rather frustrated. My skin is very thin because I’m older and the wheel was rough on my hand. I got my clay where I wanted it and then ruined it 3 different times. LOL!! But the teacher was very helpful and attentive. I did leave with a puece that I finished foe tgem to glaze. I pucked it up the other day and will find some use for it. I do recommend the class to all!

The beverage and homemade pop tart were amazing. Coffee is fresh and well made. We also took the beginners wheel throwing class which was a lot of fun and although it was definitely 2.5 hours, I wanted more time! 😛

I have taken two classes here now and both instructors were amazing and such great teachers. If you’re looking for something fun to do- give this place a try. AMAZING, I WILL BE BACK.

Had a great time listening to some music. The drink prices are reasonable. One bartender but she moves quick. Arrive a little early to get you idea seat for best views. We brought our tickets in advance quick and easy online. Off street parking. I’m not sure if they have a parking lot but we found parking off the street. I could see parking being challenging closer to show time.

RECOMMENDED! We love to support this place! At the Nash they support and encourage students to study and embracr jazz music and offer scholarships. We go see Francine Reed the first Sunday of each month. She is such a vibrant, beautiful talented and professional performer with a soulful voice you can only love!

A good ol’ fashioned jazz club in Phoenix Arizona. How delightfully unexpected. High backed booths, little drink tables, jazz standards. It really feels like another place and time. The Nash brings in an impressive roster of national acts, but at its foundation is the Charles Lewis quartet, built around this 90 year old pianist who will outlast us all. He’s truly a marvel to behold. The rest of the quartet seems to be whoever is available on any given Thursday, but no matter what, they’re tight. Look, they noodle around more than my personal taste, but if you like good jazz for cheap, they’re there every Thursday. The dress code is casual, this is Phoenix after all, and yet the people who dress up might have the right idea. It gives the atmosphere a sheen of timelessness. I don’t smoke, but I kind of wish smoking was allowed in there just for the vibe. Please note, there’s a full bar and little snack snacks but not a full dinner service here

10/10 I LOVED this class. The instructors teaching it were hilarious, and very personable! It was a lot more work than expected, and took some time understanding the process, but they really made the experience so much fun. You get to make as many as you want within the allotted time then choose your top 3 faves. Like the instructor said, be in charge of the clay, and get rid of it if the relationship gets toxic. Also don’t let the clay push you around!

Joined them for 602 day with an excellent discount on AZ state shaped ornaments. Quick service and plenty of room to work. Simple to glaze and was notified when ready for pick up. Noticed other projects on the shelves and joined a class to make pipes. Looking to join another class and may try the new studio. Excellent prices for projects requiring kiln, would recommend any class and plan to go again. Also offered were handmade gifts including yarn and sewing crafts.

My fiancé signed me up for a month long sculpture workshop at this studio and additionally gifted me a clay bells class. My godmother was a sculptor who recently passed away and he felt like this class would be a nice throwback to when we used to sculpt together. For those people who are energetically sensitive, this studio may not be the right place for you. The vibration is ultra low with the exception of the wheel throwing teacher whose energy is bright and refreshing. I wasn’t enjoying the sculpting class as there was no structure and I didn’t feel I was learning anything. The low vibration was affecting my mood and manifested as pure negativity. The teacher is very nice and will answer any questions you have but educating people is not his calling. If you do take this class come prepared with questions as he is clearly talented and knowledgeable, I just wish he was more proactively imparting skills. I also believe that it is important to not bring up conversations of politics in a group of strangers, I quickly felt alienated by the group and kept my mouth shut. I called during business hours 48 hour prior to the clay bells class to try and reschedule and left a voice message. I got a text the next day from the owner about their cancellation policy and fees. I attached my interaction to this review for the full picture. I let her know that this was a gift so I wasn’t aware of their policies but now that I do I will be respectful. I was not surprised I got a rude response— clearly the source of a lot of the negative energy in this studio. As successful business people, my partner and I do understand that this studio is a business and gave your business money. As a business, you should answer your phones and do your best to be gracious and accommodating. I only attended 2/5 sculpture classes, and I will not be attending the clay bells class, please keep our compensation and I hope you heal 💙🙏

Our son had an amazing experience at Alexa’s Piano Studio. Alexa and her staff do a wonderful job creating a fun, encouraging environment that gets students excited about learning piano. One thing we especially appreciated was the studio’s unique setup. Students can practice and perform with their instructor listening without the pressure of playing in front of their peers, which helped our son build confidence while still enjoying the benefits of group activities and a supportive studio community. The studio offers optional recitals, which is a great way for students to showcase their progress when they’re ready. Alexa is also incredibly flexible and works hard to accommodate family schedules, offering make-up opportunities when needed. We highly recommend Alexa’s Piano Studio to families looking for a positive, engaging, and confidence-building music education experience.

We’ve been with Mike for over 10 years, he is transformed not just my son‘s drumming but his musical career. At 11 years old Jordan performed in front of 6000 people. He’s the only freshman on the high school drum line this year, and he’s been playing in live musicals at the local high school while still in middle school as well as bar gigs with adult musicians and church worship groups on Sundays! If you help your child put in the work outside the drum studio, Mike’s guidance and instruction can help your child get the most out of music! He is extremely talented, kind, has amazing patience’s for all ages. If your child what’s to be a drummer, he is at the top of the list for drum instructors in Arizona.

Mike is by far the best instructor in the valley…and beyond. He knows how to relate to the student and keep their interest, even during the “not so exciting” parts of the learning process. Truly the best of the best. He’s meticulous, incredibly talented himself, and has a flawless system to take his students to levels unimaginable. He worked with all 3 of our children, our oldest at 20 is now touring as drummer in a country band that has played Country Thunder and opened for Scotty McCreery/Wynonna Judd. Janna Jennison Jones is an amazing music teacher! She is very kind, patient, and encouraging with kids, and she creates such a positive learning environment. My daughter truly enjoys her classes and feels comfortable and motivated to learn. On top of being wonderful with children, Janna also teaches very well and makes music fun and engaging. We are very happy with the progress she has made under Janna’s guidance. Highly recommend!

My son just started guitar lessons with Kieran at the Strum University and is excited to come back for new lessons. Kieran is very relatable and makes the class super fun! The registration process was super easy, they answered all of my questions in a kind and understanding manner. I feel good my son is on the learning journey and I’m looking forward to see him play guitar and perform in the future!

Strum University is the best. Kieran Lynch is a great guitar teacher, and the studio is always clean and welcoming. The adult Rock Band with Scotty Spenner is always fun and I enjoy the opportunity to work with other players to develop our set for performance. The extras ( Jam Sessions, Song Nights, etc) are fantastic. If I could rate 10 Stars I would. Back again to update my review!! Kieran Lynch has taught me so much about playing lead guitar in the last year. It’s always a pleasure to go for my lessons. Sometimes we just jam for the whole half hour and it’s so fulfilling to know I can almost keep up with him.

Kate is an excellent instructor – our student has really grown thanks to our time at Strum University. We really like the performances in the community – most recently at Desert Ridge. It’s an opportunity to confront stage fright in a safe space. Excellent communication and good scheduling policies. Highly recommend.

The gentlemen here were super sweet and nice. My son really wanted to play the Alto Sax, but his school was unable to provide one. I looked at SEVERAL places I could rent from, and this place was by far the most reasonable in price. He took his time and explained everything about their rentals. I cannot recommend this place enough! THANK YOU❤️ My son is so excited.

Great experience at Boogie music. Brought in my guitar for a setup, and they did an awesome job. Met and chatted with the owner which is a great dude and very knowledgeable. Great turnaround and my guitar plays so much better now — action feels smoother, stays in tune better, and it honestly plays so much better. Forget Bigbox stores. These guys are a small business and you can tell they care about quality work and making sure customers leave happy. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for guitar work or music gear. There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long.

This is the best local music store I have seen in a very long time! This store reminds me of the stores I went to when I was first learning to play as a kid, and the guys running this shop are super cool. I honestly plan to only shop here and not go to the big chain store nearby ever again. Boogie’s has a great selection of used gear too and the vibe of the shop is immaculate.

I took my granddaddy‘s banjo in to get a new string, and if I could give Clint 10 stars I would. He worked with me for a very long time and looked up as much information as he could about this little banjo. We took the bridge off because it was digging into the skin, and he told me how to recondition the skin and the neck. And he showed me the geometry of the banjo having to do with the 12th fret so that I could place the bridge properly after I got the calf skin conditioned with lanolin. I told him that I had heard that the banjo came with some cracker jacks at my grandfather’s uncle Andy’s store, back in West Virginia and he looked it up. He found a picture of a little banjo toy that was given away with cracker jacks in the 1920s. He also dated the banjo as best he could as 1890s or early 1900s which is around the time my granddaddy was born. So now I know that the student banjo probably wasn’t given away as a toy with carton of cracker jacks for the store but who knows. He suggested that the Banjo was probably a student banjo and showed me several points about the construction that would indicate that it was a student instrument. He also explained that musical instruments were not shipped fully constructed, but often came in kits from Sears and Roebuck, a store whose catalogs were popular in our family growing up. in the 50s. The reason Instruments did not come fully constructed back in the day was because they were being hauled Over rough roads in carts or whatever cause this is before the automobile, and would’ve been easily damaged in transportation.Anyway I think Clint should work for the Musical instrument museum. The banjo is shown here with its West African kora cousin which I also think could use some lanolin but I have to ask my kora teacher who made it if it’s calf skin or not. Honestly, I just threw in the kora to get your attention so that you would read what an over the top helpful man Clint Is, so that maybe you would go shop at Boogie Music. After all that: Clint sold me some strings for $6.50. All of these digressions aside, Clint truly deserves your business.

Frequently asked questions about music schools in Phoenix

How much do music lessons and music schools cost?

The cost of music education varies significantly based on whether you are seeking private lessons, group classes, or a full-time academy enrollment. Private lesson rates in the Phoenix area typically depend on the instructor's experience, the specific instrument, and whether the session is in-person or online. Schools and colleges will have much higher tuition structures that cover facilities, curriculum, and certification.

How do I choose the right music school?

Choosing a music school involves evaluating your specific goals, such as hobbyist enjoyment, performance preparation, or professional certification. You should consider the school's location, the qualifications of the instructors, the variety of instruments offered, and whether they provide opportunities for public performances. It is also helpful to ask about the school's philosophy on music theory versus practical application.

What are the different types of music schools and academies?

Music schools range from small private studios offering individual instruction to large academies and conservatories providing intensive, professional training. While a standard music school might focus on general education and community classes, a conservatory typically offers a rigorous, high-level curriculum focused on mastery of a specific craft. Understanding these differences helps you determine which level of intensity matches your personal objectives.

What are the benefits of music school and music lessons?

Music education provides numerous cognitive, emotional, and social benefits, including improved concentration, discipline, and creative expression. Students often develop better motor skills and memory through practice, while group settings can foster teamwork and confidence. Whether you are a child or an adult, regular lessons can provide a structured way to relieve stress and achieve personal milestones.

How often should I take music lessons?

Most students find that taking lessons once a week is the standard frequency for consistent progress without becoming overwhelmed. The ideal schedule depends on your personal goals and how much time you can dedicate to independent practice between sessions. For those seeking rapid advancement or preparing for a major performance, more frequent weekly check-ins may be recommended.
