My daughter had moved up to the Phoenix area and we were looking for a place where I can take her out for a birthday lunch and she picked this place. It was a good choice because we really enjoyed it. Nice homie atmosphere, good food, friendly people. She got the pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it very much. She gave me a bite of the pulled pork and I actually liked it better than what I had gotten. I order the 4 rib special and while they were delicious, they were a bit more chewy than what I've gotten in most other places. I had leftovers and they were good the next day for lunch. If you like greens, definitely order the collard greens because they were fantastic! I would definitely go here again to try other items on the menu.
We were looking for a quick, sit-down restaurant near the airport and we found this, only about 5 minutes away. We were welcomed the minute we walked in. The restaurant felt cozy, but there was plenty of seating. Now, let me start with the star of the show: the fried catfish. My son-in-law ordered it and it was the best thing we had. Hot, crispy and well-seasoned. I highly recommend this. I wanted to try the barbecue because it is a barbecue spot and their slogan is something like, "You don't need teeth to eat our meat!" I tried the 3 slider combo so that I could sample different things. The brisket was, by far, my favorite with the pulled pork coming in second. I also liked the sauce. It had a sweet, vinegar-y taste to it. The pulled chicken... it was extremely dry and lacked flavor. My daughter couldn't finish hers. We also were not fans of the sides. We had the baked beans. I'm sorry, I didn't like them. Then, we tried the Mac and cheese because another customer recommended them. Boxed Mac and cheese at best. Nothing special about them at all. The highlights were definitely the brisket and fried catfish.
I tried going to another place and it’s closed down. Looked on Google Maps and said this place was only a couple of miles away. I so happy I stopped inside. The bbq ribs were absolutely amazing the collard greens damn. Make the owner was so gracious and love his work. You can tell by the quality of the food. I will definitely be making another trip back.
First time going there, got a 2 meat meal with 2 sides. The corn on the cob was not sweet at all. The cole slaw was pretty solid. The brisket and spicy bbq sauce were decent but the portion size of the brisket was small. I'd give it 2.5 stars overall, it's overpriced for what you get and the food is overall pretty meh.
Honey Bear’s BBQ has been a personal favorite of mine for over a decade, dating all the way back to when they were located in downtown Phoenix. It’s one of those places that leaves a lasting impression from the first bite, and after all these years, the quality has stayed just as high. When it comes to BBQ, they really know what they’re doing. The flavor is always rich, smoky, and well balanced, and the meat no matter what you order just falls apart effortlessly. One of the standout things for me has always been how tender their BBQ meats are. Whether it’s brisket, pulled pork, or ribs, the texture is just right every time. There’s never any chewing struggle everything just melts in your mouth. That kind of consistency is rare these days, especially in spots that have been around this long. Their BBQ spicy sauce also adds the perfect touch without overpowering the natural flavors of the meat. And the sides? Just as impressive. From their beans to the mac and cheese, everything complements the main dish perfectly. You can tell they put just as much care into the sides as they do the meats, which isn’t always the case at other BBQ joints. Every plate feels like a full, complete meal comfort food done right. You walk out full and satisfied without needing anything extra. I also have to give major credit to their customer service. Every time I’ve visited, I’ve been greeted with a warm welcome and friendly service. Most recently, we decided to go on Father’s Day, fully expecting a long wait and a packed dining area. To our surprise, we were given the food in just 20 minutes, and the dining area was surprisingly relaxed. It made for an even better experience not rushed, not crowded, just good food in a comfortable setting. Honey Bear’s BBQ continues to be a top-tier spot in Phoenix in my eyes. They’ve been doing it right for over 10 years, and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon. Between the quality of the food, the friendly staff, and the consistently great experiences, it’s a place that earns every return visit. Whether you’re a BBQ lover or just looking for a satisfying meal, you really can’t go wrong with Honey Bear’s.
