Gracie Arizona Jiu Jitsu Academy

I’m from out of town and dropped into a fundamentals class. Instruction was great, instructor was good at going through the details of the moves and breaking them down to white belt levels. The guys were great, awesome culture in the gym. I’m just a drop in and the instructor cared about teaching me the moves, overall a great experience.

Sub 120lb female. Went to open mat yesterday (Sunday the 9th) from out of town. Exploring other gyms is always a bit scary! Unfortunately being a "smaller" fighter in the beginning you are definitely reliant on people letting you work. Good fighters, managed their weight, executed technique well, fun dudes! Great place for chills vacation flow rolls!

Had the opportunity to drop in here while vacationing with my family. Owner was extremely personable and welcoming. The instructors were very knowledgeable and created a great class atmosphere, and the members were great training partners and never let you feel out of place. Everyone I came across at this gym was helpful, friendly and seemed happy to have me as a visitor at their training facility, not to mention some very tough rolls. Would 10/10 recommend this gym for any belt level and I hope to be able to train there again in the future.

8/2024 update: trained here for a year and half while I lived in Phoenix. This place really became my home outside of home and really solidified my love for BJJ. I love how each of the coaches brings something special to you game and really help to provide feedback on aspects to improve. Shout-out to Marco and Jeff for helping me establish my foundations. Dan for the little standup experience I have and the great open mats. John for the constant fear I have for my ankles haha. Greg for his phenomenal details and for always reminding me to do something with my hooks. And of course Nathan for building such a great gym and community. Have really missed training here since I moved!

I recently moved to AZ and was looking for a bjj gym to stay fit and active. I’ve went to a few different schools and no school matched the friendliness and welcoming nature of Gracie Arizona. Their class schedule is unbeatable, you’ll always find a class that fits your schedule. The price is very competitive and reasonable compared to other schools and the instruction is phenomenal. Most classes are thought by black belt and are taught in an engaging way that invites learning rather than just a do it because I said so type of style. I’ve been going to this gym now for 3 + years, it’s like my 2nd home.

So many great things to say about Gracie Arizona . Its our kids first time trying jiu-jitsu or any martial arts for that matter and they love it! Nathan has the best team of instructors and staff. Our six year old took to it faster wanting to complete because his athletic nature while our eight year old just wanted to participate in class. There is zero pressure to compete but so much support to succeed!
